Came here from Geocaching app. Unfortunately couldn't find the geocache. But it was a nice visit though, to catch a sight at this hidden gem. Definetely will come again for the trail.

We visited this historical site in Batu Arang. It's the remnants of a coal mining tunnel. The tunnel is quite dark and steep so we didn't venture down. It was quite sad to see rubbish in the structure and people should be more civic minded. This is a nice place to take some photos.

Was really fortunate to meet Mr Fais who was kind enough to tell us about the place and even brought us here with his rover. Wouldn't have been able to find the place without him.

This place is not built up properly yet with proper road and entrance. But it's kind of a gem and nice place to take some really nice pictures. I really do hope that it is properly taken care of. It is worth visiting definitely.

Batu Arang dibuka pada tahun 1913 dan syarikat arang batu British mula beroperasi pada tahun 1915. Batu Arang pernah menjadi pekan kedua tersibuk di Selangor pada zaman penjajahan British. Kumpulan pekerja perlombongan pertama pada tahun tersebut kebanyakan ialah orang cina dari lombong arang batu Labuan di Sabah.

Disebabkan permintaan arang batu yang tinggi, aktiviti perlombongan itu beroperasi 24 jam sehari dengan 5,000 pekerja bertugas dalam sistem tiga giliran sehari.

Kini, selepas lebih satu abad, pekan yang pernah digelar Bukit Emas Mini agak sepi.

A really nice quiet-ish town. If the local council was a little more proactive, they would do more to make the place a go-to-place for cyclist (and maybe even motorcyclist).

I visited the old coal mine entrance, it feels like it needs more upkeep. Perhaps if there was better maintenance and will, maybe tours to some parts of the shaft could be conducted safely by former miners or individuals who specialise in such things.

The town also has these lovely old brick structures (perhaps old miner’s quarters) and some quaint old restaurants at the roundabout. There is also someone selling wantan mee from their home in the area. I did not try it, perhaps I will in my next trip.

Many come to Batu Arang for a cuppa coffee, soft boiled eggs and a small town experience.

To cyclists, this coal mining tunnel is iconic. It's a must do to capture some photos and say, "been there, done that". There's not much to do here once you've taken the photos, so head on out to the town and look for Happy Public Home Rescafe where you can see creative murals on the side while having a cuppa local coffee and a yummy 3 layer bun.
